Step 4: Get Rid of Distractions
Now that you have reduced your smartphone use, you can start reducing your digital technology use a little bit more. You can continue by imposing no smartphone use during breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You can take it up a notch by getting rid of distractions like push notifications, unnecessary alarms, and social media alerts. Turn them all off and keep only the really important ones.
Step 5: Set a Time for Social Media Use
Like I said earlier, digital technology has its usesâeven social media. Social media is one way to connect and/or reconnect with friends and familyâespecially long lost ones. What youâre trying to avoid when doing a digital detox is the overuse of social media.
Set certain times during the day when you can allow yourself to use social media. Letâs say 30 minutes late in the morning and maybe 30 minutes at the end of the day when you get home. Think of it as your catch-up time with friends and family.
